Err…
…I wonder if I missed the fine print on the DP Hat- tip policy?
A quick reminder, we link ONLY to blog posts and not to news columns, news snippets, etc. If you think we should feature a breaking story, blog about it quickly or get a pundit blogger to do it, and if we find that interesting we will link to it.
I always interpreted this as linking to posts that either fisk a published article or that explained it more lucidly. Either way, I agreed with the intent of the policy(or what I thought it meant). While its good that there are bloggers out there that read articles and try to atleast provide their readers with interesting links, linking them does other bloggers who write original posts a disservice.
Take for instance, articles like this and this. Why are such articles being linked? I think I will start copying articles from Pragati and hope to be linked. If you are not contributing anything to the article, then your post is just a link! Not a post! Not DP worthy.
I have pointed out before (and also in comment space here) that I find DP standards are seriously dropping. With the earlier set of contributors getting busier with life, I find that I don’t like what is linked on DP. That’s ok. I can understand that while my tastes don’t match with that of the new contributors, they undoubtedly cater to a new slew of DP readers. But to a fan of DP, this recent DP trend of blog mongering is depressing. I know its difficult to find good posts. There are not that many good writers. But, isn’t quality better than quantity?
If DP contributors think that these posts highlight something important - set up interesting links tab in side bar. Then link to the original article! Not to the blogger who just happens to read that article.
I hope those concerned at DP take this in the right vein. As a avid follower, I wish for it to be a blogfest of the highest standards. Not a mediocre linkfest.

This rant I agree with. Those posts shouldn’t have been linked and somehow slipped through the cracks.
Hi Sakshi, I’m glad you’re still following DesiPundit even while we’re not always living up the high standards set by the earlier pundits. It really would be helpful if we received some hat-tips.
Also, I’m happy to hear such feedback since as a new DesiPundit, I’m still feeling my way about what classifies as a post that a lot of people would like to read.
While many will not understand why I found this funny, a selected few will. At first read of a few sentences, I could not understand why dp (not DP) so critical in posts. It took a minute to realize you were speaking of DP and not dp. Although I do value his opinion. I suppose this is humor at 9 PM on a Friday night when still working in the lab.
Ideasmith,
I am curious: Do you also agonize over DP links as your friend Lekhni apparently does?
